Philadelphia has been the home of the recording industry since RCA Victor started pressing platters in the early 1900s. By the mid-50s such great labels as Gotham, Grand, Chancellor, Cameo Parkway, Universal, Josie and Jamie Guyden became the hitmakers. But the one label the bought up obscure masters from small record companies and turned them into group sound gold was Philly's own Lost Nite Records.
