Remember the thrill of a family drive downashore, and the stench that would start to creep into your car as you got close to the Walt Whitman Bridge? That was Publicker Distillers, located beneath the bridge, and the smell was the mash being distilled to make Old Hickory Bourbon, which smelled remarkably like an old, long gone granddad.
