Remember when the hottest place to stay for the coolest kids was at Chelsea? Pacific Avenue was lined with dozen of glitzy motels lit with lots of neon--so you couldn't see how crappy the places really were. They all had tropical sounding names so you'd think you were on a lush island. For a reasonable fee you could crowd 30 of your closest friends into a room that was slightly larger than a phone booth. The Seville was a favorite because for most of the 50s and 60s the night manager usually fell asleep at the check-in desk by 9pm, so you could sneak in an army. Those were the days!
