Description

It all started with Si Green's cafeteria down at 4th & Market during World War II. By the 60s Si's man about town son Stanley opened his own joint uptown called Stanley Green's Cafeteria at 16th & Chestnut. Back in those days not only busy office workers and execs grabbed trays and got in line for heaping corned beef specials and other deli delights, the old Mike Douglas Show used to tape around the corner at KYW studios. Every day visiting celebs would hike from Mike to Stanley and you never knew who you'd see at a table--John Lennon, David Bowie, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, The Supremes, Martin Luther King, Jr. Richard Nixon. It was quite a scene, and Stanley presided over it all with style!
