Description

If you blinked back in the 60s you woulda missed them. The Tucktapers, as they were originally known, was a pretty good AAU basketball team in the 1950s when it barnstormed across the country. In 1962, after the NBA screwed him out of an expansion team, Harlem Globetrotters owner, Abe Saperstein, decided to form his own basketball league and the ABL was born. Paul Cohen's Tucktapers joined the league, starting out the inaugural season in Washington, DC., and then relocating mid-season to New York. For the 1963 season the team moved to Philly, shortened its name to the Tapers, and with our cousin Ben Katuran as GM, and such players as Cy Blye, Andy Johnson and Big Bill Chimiliewski on the court, played their few home games at Convention Hall. The league folded on December 31, 1962.
