Long before the South Philly stadiums came on the scene all the sports headed to The Arena in West Philly, where The Warriors hooped it up, The Ramblers slapped the puck, the wrestlers rassled, the ice shows performed and the Friday Night Fights were staged for a boy's night out. From the 20's thru the 60's The Arena hosted cards featuring the likes of Battling Levinsky, Benny Bass, Barney Ross, Lew Tendler and Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom, along with such hard-hitting non-Hebrews as Gene Tunney, Kid Chocolate, Sugar Ray Robinson, Primo Carnera, Rocky Graziano, Kid Gavilan, Joey Giardello, Joe Frazier, Gypsy Joe Harris and Marvelous Marv Edelman.
