Here's a blast from the past! Usually you had to get up pretty early in the morning to see a test pattern on TV. Back in the day there was no overnight programming so dead air was filled with test patterns and a voiceover reminding you that the broadcast day would begin shortly with the farm report at 5:30 am. On rare occasions when the stations would lose transmission during the broadcast day the test pattern would come back on with an urgent reminder to please stand by. And we did. We sat there and watched the test pattern until our eyes blurred!
