We've had lots of landmark stores in Philly's retail history, but few were as unique and long lasting as the 100 year old I. Goldberg retaol emporium. Originally an Army Navy surplus store founded after World War I by Isaac Goldberg down near 4th & Market, the store later expanded and moved to 9th & Chestnut and included rugged jeans, flannel shirts, jackets and all kinds of outdoor gear to go along with peacoats, bell bottoms and other Army Navy style apparel. Suburban stores were added and the main store moved around on Chestnut Street until ultimately closing its doors. If you were fortunate to get something at I. Goldberg over the years, you got something special. It was always worth the trek!
