A sure sign of summering at the shore was rocking your flip flops
off at the famous Tony Mart's showbar in Somers Point. All the great club bands
appeared there over the years from Eddie & The Cruisers to Ricky & The
Rockets and hundreds more in between. Thousands of college kids packed the big
old joint every weekend and partied to the last minute of last call. The Hawks
were lead by Ronnie Hawkins and later by Levon Helm. Bob Dylan discovered them
at Tony Marts and took them on the road as The Band and the rest is retro rock
history!
