It was a balmy Wednesday night on the 16th of July in 1931 when Philly's own Benny Bass battled the legendary Kid Chocolate for the World's Junior Light Heavyweight Championship in front of almost 30,000 frenzied fans at the old Shibe Park at 21st & Lehigh. Our boy Benny got knocked out in the 7th round and Kid became Cuba's first world boxing champ.
