For generations of Philadelphia men and boys the old Camac, located off Locust on aptly named Camac Street, was a healthy tonic for the body, mind and spirit. The legendary Turkish bath, nicknamed "the schvitz" was where one went after work or on weekends for a gutsy game of hoops or handball, to hit the weights in the gym, to take a dip in the pool, to get wrapped in a sheet and sit in the steam room or sauna, and then relax with a rubdown from the pleytze or a nice nap. Aaaaaahhh..can't you just smell the scent of wintergreen and witch hazel???
