The live musical lineage of 1409 Lombard Street is legendary, first serving as the home of the jammin' Showboat and later on as The Bijou. But back in the 50s and 60s Philly hipsters flocked to the Showboat. Chances are on any given night you'd get to see and hear on the small stage such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Fats Domino, Aretha Franklin and who could forget Johnny & The Prestonians rockin' performance of "Chop Suey Louie!" All the local music and entertainment mavens and many jazz musicians -many of them hebesters - hung at The Showboat nightly. It was the place to be!
