Before they were sprinkled with cinnamon, wrapped around hot dogs, stuffed with jalapeno cream cheese, shaped like a thin hard pretzel or topped with gloppy cheez whiz a Philly soft pretzel was good enough for Fildelfyans as is for about a hundred years! They were oblong, thick, crusty, doughy with just the right amount of lumpy salt crystal. And they were great, especially when served right off the wood slab and slathered with spicy brown mustard. Those were the days, kiddies!
