In the early 1960s a relatively new style of lodging was sprouting along the Boardwalk and Pacific Avenue at Atlantic City--the motel! And at the time one of coolest of the new moderne marvels was the Monterey, located at Pacific and Pennsylvania Avenues, just a stone's throw from the majestic Chalfonte Haddon Hall hotel. The Monterey was one of the first motels at the shore to offer in room air conditioning, drive up convenience and a pool that overlooked the beach and Boardwalk. At $12.95 per night with a three continental breakfast it was one of the best deals in town!
